Lifeguard Classes

American Red Cross lifeguard certification classes are offered year round, including one day classes for re-certification. To participate, students must be 15 years old by the final class date and must demonstrate the following skills:

    Swim 300 yards continuously: 100 crawl stroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 choice stroke on stomach
    Tread water for two minutes using only the legs
    Complete the following timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds: Starting in the water, swim 20 yards, surface dive, feet first or
    head first, to a depth of 7 to 10 ft. to retrieve a 10-lb object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards on the back to the starting
    point, with both hands holding the object, and exiting the water without using a ladder or steps. 

Once the class is passed, the certification is good for two years and includes lifeguarding, cpr, first aid, and aed.
