American Red Cross lifeguard certification classes are offered year round, including one day classes for re-certification. To participate, students must be 15 years old by the final class date and must demonstrate the following skills:
Swim 300 yards continuously: 100 crawl stroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 choice stroke on stomach
Tread water for two minutes using only the legs
Complete the following timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds: Starting in the water, swim 20 yards, surface dive, feet first or head first, to a depth of 7 to 10 ft. to retrieve a 10-lb object, return to the surface, and swim 20 yards on the back to the starting point, with both hands holding the object, and exiting the water without using a ladder or steps.
Once the class is passed, the certification is good for two years and includes lifeguarding, cpr, first aid, and aed. See the information form below for more specific dates and cost.
